Berry Over The Brim Hat

 

One skein of squishy Malabrigo Merino Worsted is all you need to make this cool bucket hat. which we think is elegant yet sporty.

Materials: 1 skein Malabrigo Merino Worsted yarn in the shade Paris Night 

Malabrigo Merino Worsted is a  worsted weight 100% pure merino wool yarn, One skein weighs 100 gms and is 210yds/193mts in yardage.

Hook: 5 mm

Size: Adult 

Techniques: Tunisian Crochet

Stitches and abbreviations:

Space- sp

Stitch – st

Chain – ch

Slip stitch – sl st 

Single crochet – sc

Tunisian Simple Stitch – tss

Double crochet – dc

3Dc Together – 3dctog (in mentioned sts)

Right Side: RS

Wrong Side: WS

 

Notes: Once the body of the hat is completed, the brim is worked in Tunisian rows by working back and forth, turning and joining only where indicated. 

Level: Intermediate

Round 1(RS): Into a Magic Circle, ch3, 15dc, pull circle closed, sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch3.

Round 2: ch3, 2dc in same st, skip 1 st ,(3dc in next st, skip 1 st) around, join with sl st to 3rd ch of  beginning ch3.

Round 3: Sl st into next dc, ch3, 1dc in same st, (skip 1 st, 2dc in sp between 3dc groups, skip 1 st, 2dc in next st) around, join with sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch3.

Round 4: sl st into sp between 2dc, ch3, 2dc in same sp, (skip 2dc, 3dc in next sp between dcs) around, join with sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch3.

Round 5: sl st into sp between 3dc, ch3, 2dc in same sp, (skip 3dc, 3dc in next sp between dcs) around, join with sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch3.

Round 6: Repeat Round 3.

Round 7-8: ch1, 1 sc in each st around. Join with sl st to first sc.

Round 9: Repeat Round 2.

Round 10: Repeat Round 5

Round 11-12: ch1, 1 sc in each st around. Join with sl st to first sc.

Round 13: ch2, 2dctog in next 2sts (counts as 3dctog), (ch2, 3dctog in next 3sts) around join with sl st to first st.

Round 14: sl st into ch2 sp, ch2, 2dctog in next st and next ch sp, (ch2, 3dctog in same sp, next st and next ch sp) around, join with sl st to first st.

Round 15: ch1, (2sc in next ch2 sp, 1 sc in next st) around

Round 16: ch1, 1 sc in each st around. Join with sl st to first sc. Turn.

The remainder of the hat is worked in rows, turning and joining where indicated.

Row 17 (WS): In both loops of sc, 1 tss in each sc across.

Turn, Join with sl st to first st, Turn. 

Row 18: ch1, (1 sc in next 5 sts, 2sc in next st) across, join with sl st to first st, turn.

Row 19: ch1, (1sc in next 6sts, 2sc in next st) across, join with sl st to first st, turn.

Row 20: In both loops of sc, 1 tss in each sc across.

Turn, Join with sl st to first st, Turn.

Row 21: ch1, (1sc in next 7sts, 2sc in next st) across, join with sl st to first st, turn.

Row 22: ch1, (1sc in next 8sts, 2sc in next st) across, join with sl st to first st, turn.

Row 23: In both loops of sc, 1 tss in each sc across.

Turn, Join with sl st to first st, Turn.

Row 24: ch1, 1sc in each st around, join with sl st to first sc.

Fasten off, weave in ends and enjoy!
